For new patients, it’s a good idea to arrive a few minutes early to fill out the necessary paperwork and give yourself a few moments to relax.
We encourage you to bring any information or recent relevant testing such as scans or blood tests.
During our consults, we don’t need you to remove any clothing, though we do ask that you wear comfortable clothing which is not overly restrictive.
Your consultation will begin with a history of your complaint and a thorough medical history. This is to help us get determine a cause, any contributing factors or identify components which may require medical assessment.
You will then be asked to perform a series of movements to see how well you body moves into certain positions. Tests of the cardiovascular, digestive, respiratory and nervous system as well as specific musculoskeletal tests may be performed if clinically relevant.
During the course of assessment, your osteopath will place their hands on your body in various positions to feel movements of your body. Treatment is usually not painful and involve the use of small amounts of pressure to help balance strain and tension in different areas of your body.
Following the treatment there will be a discussion around the how best to manage your presenting complaint and how we can adapt a treatment plan around your individual circumstances and lifestyle.
